![]() Named for the father of Pennsylvania’s grand state park system, the park is a perfect place for biking, fishing, boating, and other pursuits. It’s also close to additional hunting opportunities at Gamelands 270 and hands-on learning at the McKeever Environmental Education Center. According to Becky Piccolin, the President of the Friends of Goddard – the park’s citizen support group, the park contains “a variety of habitats for many different interests” and “great birding”—her hobby and passion. Founded in 2002, the Friends of Goddard (or FROG) assists the park in many ways: They raise funds for special projects; Help coordinate cleanups; and, Organize the annual Pioneer Frolic the last weekend in June—a two-day festival with reenactments, live music, children’s games, crafts, food, and more. Fueled by 30 enthusiastic members, a sample of other FROG accomplishments include outreach activities at Venango County’s annual Earth Day event and donation of a shelter for the park’s 12 mile paved bike trail. When in Northwestern Pennsylvania, be sure to visit MK Goddard and thank Becky Piccolin and the other volunteers for their outstanding efforts to enhance and promote this gem of a state park. Pioneer Frolic
Learning about the past gives us the opportunity to honor those who have forged a place for us. By seeing how our forefathers worked and made do with the simplest tools gives us a new respect for the pioneer spirit.![]() Hot Spot ![]() Working a deer skin Re-enactors portraying blacksmiths, weavers, spinners, coopers and farmers give us a glimpse of what it took to make a livelihood. If you enjoy the outdoors, fresh air and lots of sun then we have a spot for you. Our event site is next to the lake shores. Level sites for set up, paved walk ways for visitors.
